Abandoned Games

Don't u just hate it when u r playing a game and your opponent just abandons it. This has happened to me twice today. My positions were not all that great. Both opponents were attacking and in both games I was defending successfully. Nonetheless they both had playable games and there was no reason to abandon them.

They could be playing on their mobile and have a signal dropout... It happens to me all the time... Frustrating as hell for both players!!

I had someone sit and wait for their last 18 mintues today.  I can only guess that they thought I won their bishop for nothing, even though they had a move to stop it (Qd5, right?).  To me, it looks like they could still create a lot of activity and maybe pull through, but their position did suck a little with those extremely isolated pawns.

I planned to trade my bad knight for their good, long ranged bishop.

Does Rad8 not also work for black in this position? Cool

Seems stronger to me as you are developing a piece into an attacking position whilst simultaneously holding everything together. (I think) Tongue out

In fact the more I look at it the more I think this move is stronger.

Qd3 or Qd5 wouldn´t that be a solution?

White is pawn up, so he is better, of course. The next moves could be 1...Rad8 2.Bd2 (I can't find another good move for white) Qd5 and now either 3.Nxc4 or 3.Qa4 should leave Black trying to find compensation (there is some, but it doesn't look enough).

Yeah, that is exactly why I quit playing live on my mobile. Way too many disconnects (got a different provider now, so might try it again sometime).

I saw 1... Rad8 2. Bd2, but why Qa4?  Doesn't this leave the bishop hanging on d2?  I still expect Qd5.

Oh, duh, NxB defends the bishop.

Alright, you thought abandoning games was frustrating, but think again.  This person is rated 1292 and their play in this game seems like they were purposefully playing like an idiot.  Their first 6 moves were with the same knight, moving it around in circles.

Oh, and then they offered a rematch...
