Abandons from a losing position - why don't they default to resign?

I've noticed a lot of people abandon in a losing position rather than resign. What's up with that? Is there a reason why the site doesn't just default that to a resignation? Seems incredibly sore to me.....

I also took a look at my stats, and more than 70% of my losses come frome resignation, compared to maybe 30% of my wins. I personally see no shame in being aware enough to resign in a horrible losing position (usually after a crazy blunder....), and when I was taught chess many moons ago that was seen as the right thing to do.  Has that somehow changed? Are people really that thin skinned?

Evidently so. Sigh.

Not only that. In most games in which your opponent is left with say 30 secs vs say 3 minutes on your side, or in much weaker position, they end playing chess and show you their developed clown skills. Idk but suppose showing one’s true nature is not so common irl, internet is a mask

I don't mind playing on with the click running out, and it's good practise for me to do so as then you have to think quicker etc. I know I've done that many a time. And I'll fight on sometimes too when down, as I know that I can regularly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory; so long as it's not silly of course.

Get to Blitz or Bullet and I always lose on time.

But I'll say good game, thumbs up the opponent etc.
