Aborted Games

I am kind of frustrated. I just matched up with a guy who was rated about 100 points lower than me. I played my move, and he offered me a draw, which would have lost me 5 points. I obviously declined, and he let his time run out. The game aborted, and I gained no points. He lost none. He had offered a draw, but just did not play a move. Am I being ridiculous, or should the player have lost some points for that? I mean he offered a draw before even moving.

I think there is a problem with the "aborted games" policy on chess.com....I did a thread on a not quite the same...but similar subject

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/how-can-you-lose-a-game-with-4-43-left-in-a-5-minute-game

I suppose they will justify this by saying he didn't make a move...but if he just let his time run out ?? very strange that he didn't lose the game....in the ones I talked about in my thread...they aborted the games for me after a few seconds..and recorded a loss for me ?!

ps beware the whining antiwhiners ...they come along and tell you off for "whining" about a game...but they do more whining than anyone else lol

Before you make your first move, you can choose to abort the game. Sometimes it doesn't work and I don't know why. It gives you the option to play someone around your rating and against the first white move you want to play against as black.

His opponent could have "aborted" as well...instead of just letting his time run out ….yes ?

Their policy on "aborted games" needs to be seriously looked at...it is flawed.

It is impossible to avoid such problem in online chess. Other suggestion is play with computer in long time control.( e.g Chessmaster. Stockfish is too strong and same style no matter what level though).

When you are stronger, play 3-5 mins blitz.

Well, there are even jerks who dont resign in 1 min bullets when they have 20 secs remaining and let the clock run.

I dont do such nasty jerk but I am a jerk with premoves when I lose( running lonely king or annoying useless checks)
