Acceptable or Unacceptable

Look ColinHB, sorry if I was a bit rude I my previous comment but, what kind of life do you have to be totally worried with a user that wrote some offensive words to you? It's not that he was right or something, but honestly, look to all the attention you are giving to that.

And it's not the first time you create a forum to talk about this kind of thing, looking in you profile.

If you think the users are rude, people commenting here are rude, the staff members don't care to the offenses, what can I say? Maybe you should leave...

I, personaly, would block the user, forget the offense and move on to do better things (like play chess, the reason people should be here). But that's me...

HaveAnotherGame

You speak well.

I think it is unacceptable, but if I were you I'd just block him and move on :)

Hope it helps!

Just had a couple of games with 'xxxxxx' , German Chap - or plays under a German Flag. 1 Minute games - I won the first and he chatted ' lucky piece of shit' - and 'hope you die of aids and cancer you fokker'.

When reported to Chess - nothing is done - does anyone else believe this acceptable - and is it not time for a zero tolerance - once and you are out ?

Its the annonymity of the internet.  Everyone is the toughest person on the planet sitting behind a monitor.  Dont feel bad, chess.com will do something about the report.  I report people all the time, and they have always taken care of it.

I think this is totally unacceptable, and your opponent should have been banned immediately. If I were you, I would ask for a refund, or at least not renew my membership...

I think Chess.com only takes into consideration reports based on a rating or scale of severity of like 1-10. If they are just minor things, then no punishment is likely to happen, if moderate then it depends on what was done or the category such as provacativity, rascism, and rudeness. If severe, then the person is likely to have their account closed if either Chess.com reads the report or catches that person in the act. In another comment I shall give you a literal scale for you to use in your report or to keep in mind of why certain members are not blocked, banned, punished, etc.

No Kaynight, it's called a no contest.

Do you have anything interesting to say about this subject, or are you just going to "Mcleod" all night ?

kaynight is harmless...he thrives on these posts.  Just one of those people that doesnt add anything useful, but has fun.  No offense kaynight.

SocialPanda

The only time that I have seen an account closed after an insult, was when the insult was related to the country/nationality. In other cases, they just keep insulting everybody in their notes.

Well, things like "lucky cheater real rating 500, only clock no skill" will get you at most a warning.

If being asked to go die from aids make you throw a tantrum you realy should not be on the internet.

Hang on a minute - yes I agree regards the internet - but this is OUR Chess Club.

How long ago did this happen?

People die of AIDS all the time man. Research has extended the lives of HIV patients, but make no mistake, it eventually kills you.

People dont die of aids, they die from complications of it.

AIDS = Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.  The syndrome being that your immune system is destroyed leaving you vulnerable to otherwise easily fought diseases which kill you.  So you're right and wrong, depending on what semantics you want to argue.

In all seriousness you're right. These kind of offensive notes are unpleasant and detract a bt from the pleasure of the game; but they're also just part of life on the internet where there will aways be a small number of cowardly, inadequate young men (and they almost always are men) who try to bring attention to themselves while hiding behind the anonymnity provided by the internet. Just shrug your shoulders and move on. If they can't get under your skin, then they're just pathetic losers. Who cares what they say?

If they're anonymous, how do you know that they're men?

Here is the Scale

1-4 Minority Issues such as: Slightly Rude Comments like Be Quiet, Shut Up, You suck, You shouldn't play chess, we don't want you hear. How to Solve: Disable Chat with that particular opponent and Block them as Soon as Possible. Don't communicate with or challenge the Person anymore. This person shouldn't have their account closed. Do not make a report.

5 Moderate Issues such as: Strong Language such as "You stupid little brass pole", Threats, Flirting, etc. How to Solve: If playing Game, disable chat. Block that Member. This person may or may not need to have their account closed. Make a Report.

6-10 Profanity and Language Abuse, Spamming, Cheating, Death Threats, Sexual Harrassing through pics, videos, audio recordings, etc. rascism, black mailing, sexualism etc.
