I'll occasionally say something about opportunities that they had earlier in the game. But a simple "GG" does suffice
Accepted way to say "Good game" afterwards?

I think saying "good game" or "gg" is fine, I usually say something along those lines then chat if my opponent hasn't already clicked to a new game. I definitely don't insult their play and will compliment a good move they made.

If you lost then saying "good game" will be appreciated. If you won and your opponent doesn't initiate a conversation then it's polite to stay quiet.

I don't do eye contact.

Really? I think it's fine to say good game whether you win or lose. Is this some kind of online RTS etiquette?

Try to add some eyebrow action in the mix.

saying good game when the game was obviously one sided is considered disrespectful. instead do it when the game was well fought out and hard to win

stay silent

Jeez, it's just a friendly 10 minute game, or 20 minute or whatever. No reason to give people the silent treatment and not be nice.

your win: "gg was close"
their win: "cheater"

gg after a win is occasionally acceptable if your opponent played exceptionally well on defense, but online and without the context of in-person cues it can easily be read as sarcasm.
I like mirroredragon's gg was close.
If you want to be nice after a win, "handshake" would be okay. If you want to engage in a conversation, try to find something nice to say about their game and go from there.
A question on chess etiquette.
Is there an accepted way to just say something like, "Hey, good game" afterwards which won't come off as condescending or facetious? I'm not so good with social nuances and so usually say nothing.
