I never really believed in ADHD. Just an excuse imo.
ADHD

I suffer from ADHD. I used to take meds for it , Strattera but now I've been awhile without it and it shows. I can't focus anymore and keep losing most of the time. Of course I can go back on them. Not gonna do that. At least for some more time. I wonder how it is in competitive chess. Are you allowed to take Ritalin or meds in the same category when you play in competitive chess?
Strattera makes you lose weight, don't it.

I never really believed in ADHD. Just an excuse imo.
You don't know what you are talking about.

There's something there.
It's just an issue of if it should be tagged as a handicap like it is now.
There are people who made many of the greatest contributions to the world who probably would have been diagnosed with 'disorders' like depression, ADHD and bi-polar.
So, you have to be careful before you go putting people on medicines and trying to 'manage' these things.
Despite what a couple of people have said here, the field of psychology is starting to look at 'disorders' such as ADHD in the light of useful human variation rather than something that should be medicated and stigmatized.
So, no, it's not an excuse. It is just something that is taking time for everyone else to understand and appreciate.

Alright. Plausible perspective.

Like a lot of things, the debate arises from the mislabelling of things. ADHD is not a defined thing, since the brain can't be measured in such a way: it's more like a scale of some description.
Type in your browser NIMH+ADHD. This is serious. Having worked 30 years in a psychiatry for adults I met people where the question of ADHD came up. In one case it changed a life dramatically to the good. And there where people trying to abuse ADHD as excuse or for getting drugs. Life isn't so simple as some do post here.

IOC requires drug screening, and they don't care if you're being treated by a doctor. Example: steroids are always banned, but they are a legitimate treatment for muscle repair, which affects many athletes. It's been. A long time goal of FIDE to join IOC,so I think that's what establishing a drug policy was for.
This is getting crazy there is real adhd and adhd thats is simply not adhd. I know i personially have lots of trouble paying attention during class becuse i cant keep my mind from wandering no matter how hard i try(unfourtuntely it hurts my chess game as well) however i would not say i have adhd becuse i also am not always up making trouble juumping around and stuff.

It would be kind of cool to have a card or some other evidence to carry around from a doctor saying I have ADHD so then I could snatch a piece off the board illegally (snicker, snicker, I said snatch) & if/when I get caught I could just whip out the good ol' ADHD card whenever I need to (kind of like whippin' out the good ol' race card over & over & over........), it would give me carte blanche to act any way I like & then just pretend i'm really the victim. Oh, that would be awesome. It would be like Cartman on South Park pretending he had Tourrete Syndrome. Just whip out the ADHD card over & over & over .......... Ah, the possibilities.

The gentleman just asked a simple question. Was it really necessary to ridicule this man and make ugly racist remarks?
What was racist about it?

Many want simple and clean solutions in a world where morally right or wrong are mostly useless categories. It's about treatment of diseases, really difficult diagnosis only possible with life-span data, people with addiction and comorbidity hoping for relief by abuse of medication. This is a field were the KISS-principle won't ever work. Nothing for people afraid of thinking or wanting a world divided in good and bad.
I wonder if ADHD and restless leg syndrome are somewhat correlated?
I'm not sure if you are being funny or not. But in case of 'not'; these 2 things are not realted.
Restless legs syndrome is a neurological disorder having to do with the nervous system.
'ADHD' is a neurodevelopment psychiatric disorder that, if it exists, originates in the brain.
