Try it. Join up, and you will see a sudden increase in wins or a short period of them, and then you start seeing pop-ups. Upgrade. 

If you don't pay you start to lose. 

Have a look at your stats- it reflect it.

That's the way chess works. You win some, you lose some. The only thing about premium is you'll tend to get paired with other other premium members more often.

Here's my ratings from OTB regular rated chess. Ratings go up, rating go down. It's not about the algorithm.

It has nothing to do with paid vs not paid

when chess.com wants you to win.

opponent has a lower score and I am white.

When chess.com wants to lose I am black, I have a lower score than my opponent.

If you try and abort repeatedly to change the above, it keeps on giving you black and the opponent is higher. Will not give me white.

When I paid I had white almost all the time and people made mistakes. When I don't I am given black and no mistakes.

The player most due black gets black. If you abort a game in an attempt to get white, it's highly likely you'll get black again unless your new opponent is more due black.

Eventually, if you do that too often, you're more likely to get a longer string of games as black.

Again, it has nothing to do with premium status.
