Anand will beat Carlsen in 2014

If he continues his form, that is. What do you think?

Well first thing to consider is: what will be the significant difference as opposed to the previous encounter?

Avatar of FKLWL

Better mentality and motivation would be significant factors, I believe.

All that hype about Carlsen is justified, but really, the only that Anand has to fear of Carlsen is the fear itself.

Poor Anand - I bet Carlsen is already looking for recipes of how to prepare a juicy Indian steak Laughing

Botvinnik - Tal anyone?

(Except that Carlsen is a lot more stable than Tal)

(And I hope this one of those great comebacks in which Anand shows the world that Carlsen is not invincible)

I guess motivation makes sense, as acquiring something is often easier (mentally) than defending. The previous match was in Anand's hometown which it won't be again, obviously, but how much of an advantage was that? Maybe it was even a disadvantage as he felt even more pressured, who knows. As for selfconfidance/mentality, I think that will depend mainly on how both players will perform in the time between now and the match itself. As for that match, I always think the pressure is with the current World Champion as he got it to lose while the challenger can claim it.

Anand certainly seems to have shed his passivity after Carlsen experience. He stand very good chance in return game

Indeed, and I think we will see a very different Anand come November (or was it September?) I think he will play much more actively this time round, as he has nothing to lose anyway.

Has Anand won any event in which Carlsen has been involved since Carlsen was an adult?

Beating everyone else for the first time in years has little relevance, Carlsen does that with regularity.

Hahahahahha good joke. Lol

I think Carlsen will beat him again. Didn't look like it was a big problem the last time around. Tournaments and matches are very different. Carlsen stood the test cum laude and proved that he isn't ranked #1 for no reason.

I think Anand has no idea how to beat Carlsen. Anand called Carlsen's games against him boring. This is a sign he doesn't know where to look. But ok. He has several months now to prepare. Maybe he will do better next time. I hope it because it will produce better games.

Could Messi ever be as good a footballer as George Best ?

Could Bob Geldof ever sing like Mick Jagger ?

Could Anand beat Carlsen in a match ?

Different questions, same answer.

Avatar of Scottrf

Messi is already better than Best ever was.

That tickles, Scotty.

To beat Carlsen (which seems unlikely), he has to perform much much much better than he did here at the Candidates.

Indeed Carlsen starts hot favourite. Anand has played him in a long WC match now and certainly expected to do much better next time they meet.

That was what i was going to say(-1 much)....any way he is mentally better and i think it is easier to prepare when you are the challenger(on the mental level that is).........also he is playing better chessSmile...so it wouldn't be proper to write him off...but carslen is clearly the favourite..so lets see

Avatar of TheRocketKing

well, anything is possible :D! Everybody or probably the majority thought anand would finish last in the candidates but somehow he qualified

Avatar of Threebeast

I agree anything is possible,  it would nice for him to regain the title again. I think he will lose again.  I know I will be watching.

The truth of the matter is that there were quite a few games in the last WCC where Anand had some definite winning chances and blundered them away;the point being that Anand does have the capacity to beat Carlsen if he can cut out the inexplicable blunders...he played blunder free chess in the candidates and he can do it again in November.
