Make yourself think at least 10 seconds before making your move. Make yourself, force yourself to, and don't run away from doing it unless you are low on time. I'm trying to do this, and it's not easy.
Anger is RUINING my Chess [Please Help]

Chess it seems either brings out the best or the worst in people.
Mostly the worst, at least for me.
One reason, I think, that chess is popular is because it creates anger. After carefully setting up a game, the chess player makes a blunder and his strategy is quickly finished, in a loss. His opponent is quite happy. Next time the opposite might happen.

Chess it seems either brings out the best or the worst in people.
Hmm ...I thought it was "forums."
P.S. Or "income tax preparation." Wait - that's probably just me... never mind.
Every chess player knows the feeling, usually about half a second after they make their move - ' oh no - I didn't see that! Everything crumbles into a big mess. The good thing is that another game can be played, with more caution next time.

This is fine. Don't listen to that guy telling you to just have fun. You should be angry in chess. You're trying to kill someone, right? Just fantasize that you're Joffry and your opponent is Ned Stark.
The only real advice. Others just won't get it.If you get angry with losing, then don't lose.Do EVERYTHING necessary.

Hey everyone,
Sometimes I get extremely angry while playing chess which causes me to lose lot of games. Here are the things that happen when I'm in this state of mind:
1.) I move extremely fast even if I have a longer time control
2.) I don't think logically & just move, move, and move.
3.) I just want the game to finish ASAP
4.) This ultimately results in a loss or draw & increases the anger
5.) I'm usually angry at myself
6.) If my opponent is moving fast, I get angry and start moving fast too.
This "Angry state of mind" has caused me to lose countless games which I could have won if I were relaxed or calm.
Am I the only one who is experiencing anger while playing chess? Have you ever experienced something like this?
If so, how did you deal with it? How can I overcome this problem?
Please help.
Here is the fix: every once in a while, play unrated. It helps.
Everyone saying “just have fun” is perfectly fine, but they must understand that not everyone wants to “just” have fun, but also improve and gain a more sophisticated understanding of chess, so as to win.
It is a competitive game after all, win by any means necessary.
My sadness and rage just make me work harder, to eliminate the weaknesses in my play.
If you take chess seriously, you must hate losing with every fiber of your being.

I can get intense, I'm now using music to help me focus that, and go from a state where I want to rip my opponent limb from limb (on the chessboard, I'm not THAT violent) to a state where I want to destroy them silently and as efficiently as possible (again, NOT me in real life).

I have problems with chess rage too. I think I'm getting better though, as I lost 4 blitz games in a row today to the same person, but was patient enough to play and win a fifth. (don't always do that though, because sometimes you'll tilt)

I feel you. Sadly I can't help because I'm practically the same as you.

I have a feeling that person's issues are resolved by now, that was in 2017

Because I’m playing hyperbullet my anger doesn’t long. I’ll have to find out when I play blitz or rapid after I retire from hyperbullet.
Hyperbullet and bullet are completely different.

True.
But obviously that is not working for the OP.
So the "just have fun" approach may be better, in his case.
@badbishopjones3 I play chess because I’m good at it. I get mad when I don’t play good; it’s a mindset. I go into every game expecting to win because I have a chance of winning.
