Annoying Java popup

Sort:

Several times in a 10-minute game I get a really annoying pop-up that tells me I am not running the latest version of Java and I have to refresh the board each time, losing about 15 secs. I've visited Java's own site and ensured I have the latest version running. I'm not installing from a pop-up because it's a recipe for malware and unwanted add-ons, but how do I get rid of this annoying feature?

you can temporarily disable Java update.  Or if you don't need it you can just remove it from your system.  Usually it's just used in corporate settings. Take note that Java is different from JavaScript.  You can do almost everything on the web and internet without Java.

If you've verified that you have the latest version of Java, and you're getting pop-ups saying that you don't have the latest version of Java, then you probably have some kind of malware on your computer. Time to clean up your system.

On Chess.com, you only need Java to play the computer. I've read that Version 3 of Chess.com's interface will not require Java at all. (Version 3 is scheduled to go online a few months ago. Wink )

The Java browser plugin is one of the most vulnerable apps to malware attacks. If you don't need it, at the very least, unplug it from your browser.

That popup is malware.

Google Java Update Virus (or Fake Java Update Virus) or any similar combination of key-words.

Thanks. It does seem to be malware that just coincidentally I only see when I use chess.com on Chrome or Firefox - maybe that's the only Java application I run. I'll try cleaning up my system.

I am only getting this on chess.com as well.
