the fastes method is brute force. Think like a computer, not like a human. Dont count points until you can see in your mind the final position. It needs some pattern recognizion. A human in general will find one or more weakness in the oponent position and use forcing moves to make use of them. Finding this weak points, will be the first step from a human point of view. Something that has help me is to understand not only how the pieces move, but to ask my self , WHAT ARE THE DEFENDING PIECES DOING? what defends what? to find its defending function.
