I have the same problem, but stopping xanax and eventually moving My home will eventually help
Any advice for a beginner like me for these dilemma?

Try correspondence chess - called online chess here, and take your time, think about what your opponents plan is etc.

thank you. Im considering buying a book. If you guys have any which should I choose, the Dvoretsky or Silman's complete...for beginners like me? thanks.

The Tao of Chess is the best first book a beginner should read. I agree about online/correspondence chess. You can use the analysis board to check your moves or set up a board like I do. Good luck.
I see the only type of game you've played is blitz. You might want to lengthen the time controls to at least 15/10 to give you enough time to think about your moves, and actually play the game. Switching to longer time controls is what got me above 1100 rating and it's been growing ever since. Also if you're going to read a book I'd suggest Yasser Seirawan's Play Winning Chess series, it really helped me learn when I started

I just registered today so Im not much familiar with the links here. At play chess link It always gives me a blitz event so I only get to play blitz.
There's a post in this forum that says dvoretsky is good for beginners but then again I might have go with Siliman's. I'll also consider the Tao chess thanks for the suggestions
as for you maheshroks, as far as I remember I have lost to you on a 5 min Blitz game. With all honesty I still can't handle a Blitz game since I just learned chess last week. But then again I had an opponent with 5 min blitz game. I am just one move to checkmate him but my time ran out so I unfortunately lost but then again I got more pieces from him so Im pretty sure I'm for chess so with all due respect don't mock me and tell me to quit. That's not very cool of you.
Thanks for everyone's replies

Try king and pawn endgames first, those are most basic. You'll work on your calculation skills as they're the easiest thing to calculate. Then work on knights. Calculations involving knights can be a bit tricky and easy to over look when looking for checks, captures, and threats from the opponent. The queen has the opposite problem (endgames with few pawns only usually): so much mobility from the queens that there's so much potential to wade through! Usually the side with the passed pawn exhausts the checks.
So there are exceptions to everything. In short do some basic tactics, endgames, and move one pawn in the opening and then get those pieces out. Move two pawns to occupy the center if 1.e4,e6 or 1.e4,c6 though.

As other suggested to you, you should play longer games. Blitz is bad fo beginners!
Try 15|10 or even 30 and think carefully to your moves.
Good luck!

1) Get Lazlo Polgar's book "Chess": it has 5000 chess puzzles (solve for mate in 2, etc). You will improve your chess "vision" dramatically. Do 1 or 2 pages of puzzles before you go to sleep each night, not more.
2) Also learn the 29 checkmating patterns (OK, maybe just learn the top 15), run through them over and over so you will not miss an opportunity when you get it.
3) In 3 months start learning an opening for white, then after you have played that opening 10k times, learn 2 openings for black, one against 1.e4 and one against 1.d4.
4) Play and play and play. Look over your games you lost and try to understand where you could have done better. Play longer games like 20 or 30 min time controls.
5) Have fun. It's just a game! Ok it's the original war game, but it's a game!
Hi, I just started last week to play chess, I know I'm too late but I'm obsessed but I played today with various of people although I'm not ready I still do it but turns out I lost every game. :(
I now see my weakness as I play.
1. ADHD- I can't focus on my game pretty well.
2. I get squinted a lot in chess (like the opponent has piece at the black then I move my piece to get it but turns out I am to land at the white adjacent to the piece, some things like that) thus messing up my moves.
3. I have a VERY hard time to come up with stategies (maybe I have short term memory lost?)
4. I am very impatient, thus making quick moves and messing up.
I need advices from long time players. I want to be good at this game badly. I have no friend playing chess, thus this site and chess titans and deep green app are my only mates.
I am very very frustrated. I hate getting out-witted. :(
Thanks a lot.
