You need to accept defeat before you learn

My good sir, you must take a plane to Nepal and climb to the peak of the Himalayan mountains. There you will meet a bald dude with a robe. He will give you a green elixir. Drink it, and infinite chess knowledge will be embedded in your soul, allowing you to play a perfect game of chess.

Sarcasm aside, there’s no mystical vial or book to skyrocket your elo. Getting better at chess takes time, and you will wonder if you’ll ever get better at all (trust me, you will).

As for some actual chess advice - at your elo, do lots of tactics and try your hardest to concentrate and not hang pieces or walk into tactics.

Don't listen to all them young whipper snappers. Let an old codger fill you in. Yes, there used to be these wonderful things called books, and you could go to this building that had a huge collection of them and you could borrow them and actually take them home. They could fill your head with all sorts of nonsense. Now all the buildings are gone and all the books are on the Internet. Archive.org has Capablanca and other chess books for free. The Internet archive.

Pawn Power in Chess by Hans Kmoch.

This book added literally HUNDREDS of points to my playing strength, although I had to read and re-read it a few times.

NOTE: This is not a chess book for simpering limp-wristed dilettantes! If you want a chess author who will gently hold your hand and lead you toward the light, look elsewhere! This is a chess book for knuckle-dragging, hairy-backed MEN!

Be warned!

This book covers many phaces of Chess and it's an easy read . . .

Probably the best and it's under $10.00 dollars . . .

Is it better than the one by soltis?

More difficult to digest, but ultimately more rewarding, yes.

The Internet archive contains material which is out of copyright only.

There's also a huge Grateful Dead and Little Feat concert section. Everything free. Not like the world.

There is also the Gutenberg collection.

I messed up. Capablanca is on Gutenburg dotorg.

I also found a direct PDF download with a 'capablanca chess download' search. Sources Directory at sources dotcom.

One of the best books on chess ever written available for free, and we're paying money for books?

Kmoch is on the Archive. I also found his book on a free download through pdfcoffee dotcom. Thanks, Blue Emu. I think this is just the book that I need.
