here is an e-mail i received from steviedisco himself in which he let's me know that it was ok to make any transformation to the software:
Thanks for your comments - I enjoyed making the game. Unfortunately,
I don't have any plans personally to do anything more to the game. I must admit
to not being a particular chess addict - it was more an exercise in learning 3D
graphics.
As I say, I don't know much about chess, and I basically took an existing chess
AI engine and transplanted it into my program.
However, you may be in luck. Due to the fact I put the code out there as open source,
several people have taken up the baton to do something more with it.
The most promising contact I have had is with the following fellow from brazil. His email
address is leandrouff@gmail.com.
He has said that as part of his degree he is going to use my code and transplant
a computational ai algorithm into the software. Sounds interesting.
He might be grateful for someone to beta test it for him? ;)
Hope that is of some use to you.
I am interested in knowing from anybody who would be willing to put a stronger chess engine in this amazing free source 3D chess program, I think the only thing this program would need is a stronger chess engine+opening book, this program is nice, but the engine is too easy to beat, if you have any ideas let me know by posting here, here is the link to the program download page, so you can take a look at it http://www.steviedisco.co.uk/
