Of course, you can copyright it, but I'm wondering if there's been any famous games that's copyrighted?

Greco used to sell his composed games back in the day, does that count?
I don’t think you can copyright chess games though.

Its well established legally that you cannot copyright the moves to a game.

My understanding (not a lawyer and don't pretend to be one) is you can't copyright the moves to a game. You can copyright the commentary. You can copyright a collection of games.

What is unclear to me is whether you can copyright a composed position.

Interesting, you cannot copyright the moves to a game but you can copyright a collection of games.

I know it is done but I would think the collection of games is just the moves of the games.

The more you know ....

Interesting.  I don't know too much about chess, but copyright is used to protect expression. So, if I devise a chess game, it would seem like copyrightable.  Now, if 2 players collaborate to create/play a game, it would seem applicable too.  Need to see some US court cases, I guess, LexisNexis anybody?

I'm wondering, hmmm, what if somebody patents the fried liver attack, for example.  I think copyrighting the exact moves is more logical.
