Personally, whether 1. e4e5 is boring depends on what happens after that.  I mean, if it is a four knights game, then i think that is pretty boring, with some exceptions (always exceptions :)).  Generally, i feel that there are too many things that can happen with it so i generally play the scandinavian defense as black.

People that play the Four Knight's game should be beaten with sticks. In my experience it is the dullest, least interesting opening there is.

Really, you are obviously not aware of the Four Knights Scotch, the Halloween Gambit, or the Belgrade Gambit.

White makes the first mistake with 1e4 (should be 1d4)

Black should play 1 ...c5 with dynamic equality

Then Black makes the second mistake with 1...e5 handing the initiative back over to White :-)

BUT 1e4 e5 is not boring :-)

I've hated 1.e4 e5 with a passion ever since learning how to play chess. It's so dull and boring. If I'm watching a Grandmaster game and 1.e4 e5 is played, I lose all interest in the game.

If my opponent plays 1.e4, I usually play 1...e6 (the French), but sometimes 1...d5 (the Scandanavian), and occasionally 1...c5 (the Sicilian).

As White I never play 1.e4. Usually it's 1.d4, but sometimes 1.Nf3, and occasionally 1.c4.

1.e4 e5 is a real pet peeve of mine, and I'm curious of whether anyone agrees with me here. :D

I know no dull openings

The Ruy can be sharp and exciting... also many lines of the bishop opening (2.Bc4) oh and also the philidor has some trappy lines and has some explosive sacs on f7 too.  Not to mention the king's gambit or latvian gambit / rousseau gambit.

The berlin or petroff are the drawing curses of the 1.e4 e5 lines, but other than that not very boring...

It is only boring if a majority 60 -80% of your opponents play the say first move to 1 e4.  1....  e5 below 1500 and 1 ....c5 for stronger players.
