Before I say that I'll play, can you define a "sideline"?
Hi,
By sideline I meant moves that are not recognized as theoretically advantageous or those that are not in a database.I would like to maximize my learning experience so it is better to avoid eccentric moves too early on. For example, in the sicilian playing bc4 on move 3 or 4 is obviously losing but people play it anyway just to annoy the opponent. Your rating seems to indicate a serious approach.
Should we start a game now?

Again, what is defined as theoretically advantageous? I play the Vienna and Closed Sicilians with White, and objectively neither of those probably lead to an advantage for White...am I allowed to play stuff like that, or do I have to play the most "accurate" lines, i.e. Open Sicilian, Ruy Lopez, etc.?

no wing gambit is fine. i meant really really really inferior moves like 1.e4 c5 2. nf3 d6 3. Bc4?! such moves make no sense. black immediately blocks the bishop by e6 and then pushes d5 occupying the center AND getting a tempo.
believe it, such moves ARE played, at least at the rating level i am at.
should i send a challenge now? let's get through the opening quickly, i suggest but you are free to take your time as am i.

Yeah, sure, send a challenge. But I'd just like to point out that 3.Bc4 is a lot less inaccurate than the WIng Gambit :P

mainline_novelty, i am currently unrated in online chess, just started, and get a message that 'mainline_novelty' only accepts challenges from players rated higher than 1500. perhaps you need to modify the settings if you wish to accept.

What's wrong with Bc4 in the Sicilian? It's not like you're a master, so it may be just fine against you?
