Anyone here tried Shatranj?

Shatranj = early form of chess thousands of years ago.

I tried some games today with a friend, very difficult with the piece movement and re-balanced Fers (queen).

It is nice to have the bishop play more like an archer piece, diagonal-moving knight. They are an awkward piece with the shatranj rules, so I can see why that was changed over the centuries. Incidentally that change probably led to why it is considered slightly better than the knight now.

I do like the rebalanced queen, a good piece to have around the squares you want to control, but cannot dart around the board like the modern queen.
