It's really weird that everyone keeps spelling "weird" correctly. A forum first!
I always remember that, as a Germanic-derived word I assume, it should be spelled wierd. But because it is weird, it is weird.
Is that weird?
Edit: Upon further research I found that it is a compourd of wen + ird, which in the proto-Germanic means "chess player".

Interesting. Normally, people seemed stunned that I play chess. I make a living as a guitarist and writer, being involved in the punk and underground scene in San Francisco, so people assume I wouldn't be involved in this great game. Of course, people think I'm weird so there you go. Chess is the least "weird" thing I do. I know a lot of great chess players who are one step away from being homeless. The reason has to do with obsession. I know about this because I am so obsessed with chess that everything revolves around it. If there's a good match at one of the local clubs, the band doesn't play that night. Luckily, I have royalties that help pay my bills when I'm chess obsessed.

I guarantee that I am weird. I think it is unrelated to my chess playing though. Isn't everyone weird depending on your point of view? Different cultures and groups have completely different views on what is weird. "Weird" is subjective.
I can vouch for this... we're total misfits..

I don't feel weird but do feel that people think I am weird because I love chess.
I think chess should be taught in school for all the reasons that other forum topics have covered.
