I think introverted players compare diligent and quiet. Extroverted compare players love sports and cheerful, the most important thing is they are smart.
Chess players aren't any one thing. It is like saying all football players are stupid. Every chess player is different, some may be very intelligent while others may not be, some may be social while others are not.
Extroverted players play e4.
Introverted players play d4.
lol. Cool statements.
Yes, introversion appears far more common among chess players than the general population.
I've always been introverted, with my job and alcohol being my doorway to socializing. Chess itself sustains my introverted character, but this chess website fits right into the tension between being an introvert and an extrovert;) I can't speak on other people's character regarding your question:)
Watch that forum on ENFP and so on, some time ago ! Heister , post 10, is allright, no BEST personality for chess. And RedBishop, post 4 is right.
I open e4 since 1973 and feel allright with it...
Let me try to add some thoughts to post number one !
I remember that forum on the Myers - Briggs Type Indicator, starting with Extraversion (E) and Introversion (I) : all types can play chess, like they say themselves " all types are equal, there is no best type ".
The title of this forum restricts to chess players only, but Natalia is right to include " average humans " as well, that makes it more interesting.
I think a chess player has to use basic information (S) and add meanings (N) as well ; logic (T) is required and Feeling (F) can only be used at special circumstances, e.g. knowing your opponent ; than : no decisions (J), but stay open (P), resulting in (either E or I) and than -STP (when you play already a very long time) or -NTP ( young players do like experimenting ).
I try a statement : " I S T J " is the "best" player, please check the site www.myersbriggs.org , mbti-basics, and react in this forum, so Mandy711 can get a nice reply...
Among famous GMs, I only can think of Kasparov as non-introvert. He is comfortable speaking to interviewers and audience. And he is even in politics.
Extroverted players play e4.
Introverted players play d4.
What if you play both? And according to you, I'm an introvert.

Tal and Capablanca were not particularly introvert either.

Bipolar.
Are most chess players introvert? I am certainly an introvert. Do you know famous GM past or present who is not among the introverts? Please post your opinions.
