Bobby was not, i repeat NOT, mentally or emotionally unstable!
Are Chess Players Less Prone To Being Scammed?
i guess you are an a@@@@@hole cote
HolyFlame; can you cite your sources for being soo adamant about BF's mental, physical, and emotional illeness?? I'm willing to listen. Then I'll give you my sources.
Well, you don't know me, so, you should have no basis for disliking me. What are your sources for Bobby Fischer's mental/emotional state? I ask because it's generally believed that he had some nature of emotional and/or mental instabilities.
I don't think you can read it because it doesn't have any pictures, but maybe your friend David can read it to you. "End Game" by Frank Brady; Broadway books, copyright 2012. And "Bobby Fischer Goes To War" by David Edmonds, and John Eidinow; Harper Collins books, copyright 2004. "A person like you can't be dealt with on any level" THAT'S WHY YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE! Happy Easter.
Bobby was not, i repeat NOT, mentally or emotionally unstable!
I would say emotionally he was more or less unstable. But mentally, he knew what he was talking about and that it was politically incorrect; he just didn't care.
Well... the OP's claim is that "an excellent chess player does not necessaily have a high I.Q. or is less susceptible to scammers." Most of the people on this site that I've conned I wouldn't describe as excellent chess players, and certainly none are professional chess players. So my personal experiences do not have much bearing on the topic of discussion.
O, I just realized that what I just said could come off as dissing some people. I'm not. Honestly, I didn't realize it until after I posted the comment. Just wanted to make that clear...
Is it psychological PRO-jection, or RE-jection?? I try that on Erik every month when he ask me for money; "leave me alone, I don't like you" I told you before. These forums are for mature people. When you take everything personally, then your too young. These forums are for banter, exchange of ideas, enlightenment, disagreement, discussion, education, and YES, a few insults once in a while. Good luck. Let me know if you need body armor. I got plenty. Its Easter, has anyone seen my eggs??
Look at how opening books with superficial comments at best* and reams and reams of theory you could reproduce with an engine at worst sell like hotcakes, I'd say no.
*Some opening books like Cox's book on the Berlin Wall, Marin's 1...e5 books (Beat the Open Games and A Spanish Repertoire for Black) and Shipov's two volume Hedgehog set are great and actually go over strategies, plans, ideas, critical lines, etc., but are unfortunately the exceptions to the rule. Shipov's books have some complete games (always good) but even he cuts off analysis as soon as black equalizes sometimes depriving the reader of a well faught Hedgehog strategic endgame or even middlegame. Gipslis' Variation is dead, may as well play the Latvian instead but the Hedgehog in general lives.
so now we know madamme cotex has rwo accounts one as cotex and another as furtiveking, see how he gets confused and addresses as cote while writing as furtive king above
Chess players get conned all the time. In chess. Your opponent sees an opportunity and is able to make moves that have you believe one thing is true, when,in fact, it isn't.
And, yes, Bobby Fischer, at the very least, was emotionally disturbed.
i maintained that chess skill does not in any way make a person in any way better prepared to deal with everyday life and thus no, an excellent chess player does not necessaily have a high I.Q. or is less susceptible to scammers. What about u Joe?
Agreed. Chess skill correlates positively with skill at chess... and not much else.
Last night i had a discussion with my friend David. He insisted that Bobby Fischer had an I.Q. higher than Einstein's. he said it was some where around the 170's. I was shocked by this and attributed under the category of one of those modern myths that is repeated enough times, is actually false, but is generally believed to be true. We looked it up in the Internet but couldnt find anything to confirm that fact. This led to another discussion about whether good chess players in general are indeed smarter than the average population, and consequently are less susceptible to scammers of all varieties. i maintained that chess skill does not in any way make a person in any way better prepared to deal with everyday life and thus no, an excellent chess player does not necessaily have a high I.Q. or is less susceptible to scammers.
