Are kids better at chess?

Even though chess is mostly pattern recognition and practice, it's still a problem solving game so It makes sense that adults would generally perform better.

Yet, it feels like there are so many young kids who are great at chess, especially online.

Maybe it's just that kids are more likely to seek recognition and show off their achievements, which creates the illusion of there being more talented young players than there actually are.

I'm curious about what others think, do young people improve faster or slower? or is there any difference?

not sure but the youth really are getting more reckless as time goes on

Kids improve faster but hit certain levels and slow down, unless they have coaching or do extra themselves to keep going, i find older people peak and don't put in time etc down to real life etc 

All the world chess champions have been in their early 20s to late 50s when they've had the title, so it does seem to take some level of maturity to play at the very highest level.
