It seems obvious that it must help. However, there are tradeoffs. A quiet room is a good place for study and thinking. Today, finding a place away from constant distraction is a challenge.

Many learning resources for chess are free and easy with the invention of the internet.  Unless you have the iq of a fish, you won't need explanations. As for the tradeoffs...  The good far outweighs the bad.
