I think in a lot of cases, it's just ignorance - I mean, they just put their phone down, or walk away from their computer, when the game is over in their mind, without even thinking about it. Like no 'offence' intended, just ignorance.

There should be an "are you still there?" button lol.. You should be allowed, once every, say, 10 min? to ask your opponent if they're still there. if they don't respond in 2-3 min. they lose..

I think this has been posted to death.  You can find hundreds, if not thousands of posts on this subject.  Personally?  If you agree to play a game with "X amount" of time then be prepared to sit in front of the monitor that long.

This has only ever happened to me in blitz games, and not very often. In a 30 min or longer game it would be annoying. I'm glad it doesn't happen to me! But a way to probe your opponent in case they've fallen asleep or walked away couldn't hurt in long games, seeing that so many people complain about it.

I totally agree with  Diakonia... If you want to play "X" minute time control, if have to be patient to wait "2X" minutes..  Or you could have a look at this https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/100-things-to-do-while-waiting-for-people-to-move
