Ashley's Million-dollar chess tourney - but bring your own clocks

Its sad to see how many feel the need to bag on this tournament, and Maurice Ashley.  The man is trying to get something good going here.  It astounds me how so many have to find the negative in things?  If you dont want to play in the tournament you dont have too.  Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

And no one is forcing you to play in it.  So you have made your decision, and the tournament will go on, and hopefully be successful.

cowardlybishop and friends, don't play in the tournament. Why attack GM Ashley as a criminal fraudster and try to destroy his reputation with endless, random, incoherent attacks that you cannot back up? MrDamonSmith is correct, that Maurice Ashley's powerful Negro Elite(on average about 20 times poorer than the national average) has been silencing racists in America by pretending to be victims. That's why there's no Tea Party hurling the same kind of random, illogical hate against Barack Obama that MrDamonSmith, cowardlybishop and friends are hurling against Ashley here.

You're correct.  The cost of playing in the MC Open is similar to playing in the US Open (or the World Open).  The 2013 US Open drew 500 players (in part because it is a 9-day tournament with a 6-day option and a 4-day option) and the 2013 World Open drew 1200 players.

Will the MC Open have more participants than either of these tournaments?  Will the MC Open have enough participants to cover the costs (The 2005 HB Global Challenge, with a $300 entry fee, had 1600 entrants, but lost money)?  

Admittedly, this is more of a concern to Ashley and Lee than to the players, but it will determine the future of MC, LLC and the potential for future high-prize tournaments.

This is the second time I have seen a racial slur used by this user. I'd probably see it more often if I read more of his posts.

MBCIevenger, there are different sections. I am playing in the un1600 section. I signed up early and won airfare, my total cost will be under 1,400. Maskeddbishop should change his name to Cowardbishop . We all know love and unity = a plus sign (+), and hate and division = a minus sign (-). Simple math this man = Satan. If any fool follows this clown's stupid ideas is cazy. Why would someone take up so much time bashing someones tournament? I have never payed for chess lession, I think that is the hustle. I have 2 friends who payed for chess lessons, both are still in the D section. Information without application is nothing. We pay 25.00 hour and the coach want even play you any games to make sure you are battle tested.The student leave with information and no application. The statement about the small tournament at local hotel. That is why I signed up for the MC tournament. I have played in 30 tournaments in 4 years, and the 2nd place prize in the MC tournament is more than all the tournaments combined. Chess players are broke in my opinion because we have been playing in all these small tournaments. With no return on our investment from the chess coachs, tournaments, books, Monroi device, hotels, airfare, etc, etc, etc. We are broke. So we hate Maurice Ashley because he exposed us as a brilliant broke chess players. So we write a long articles boycotting the tournament. In my opinion Maskedbishop, I mean Cowardbishop, I am sorry King Klown is trying to sound like a wise man, but a fool can never play the role of a wiseman.

Silentknight there will be different section 2400, 2200, 2000, 1800, 1600, 1400 have you guys seen the tournament formate?

Now! I have a solution for all the brilliant chess players with no money. I am a 1520 player and I will help you think in this position. It is a no brainer.

For comparison's sake. The last two major US tournaments were the Philadelphia and Chicago Open.

Philadelphia Open: $225 entry fee with $60K guaranteed.  The class prizes were $4K to $5K.

Chicago Open: $235 entry fee with $100K guaranteed.  The class prizes were $3k to $5K.

So Millionaire Chess will be 5x the fee for 10x more guaranteed.  Seems like a good deal, especially if it has a low turnout. I will be laughing all the way to the bank becuase all the brilliant chess players over looked the key move in the position. The word( Guaranteed!)

I have no doubt that Ashley and Lee will pay out the prize money (if they don't cancel the tournament), but bear in mind that the penalty for not paying a guaranteed prize is minimal.  The organizer will not be able to advertise in Chess Life for one year.
