''Yes, I know I could pay thousands of dollars to avoid the ads (through paying $28-$99/yr in premium membership dues), or, I could 'mute' my PC's sound.''
Repeat 10 times daily and you should be able to convince yourself.

Actually it's been a while since I've heard "Congratulations" on this site, even with using IE without any ad blockers.
Ads are no longer a problem since I've been using Firefox with AdBlock Plus, and, DoNotTrack Plus as add-ons.

I have also these ads. Its clearly something with chess.com, i have never heard any ads with sound before, and will not install any ad blockers etc.
Its clearly totally unaccetpable. A lot of people in the forum writes its chess.coms intention annoy as much as possible to make people buy a membership... (must the most stupid marketing strategy in the history of marketing in that case).
This clearly violates what a website is by law alowed todo.

Really?! Call 911 and report it to the police.

Your options:
1) Buy a membership.
2) Install adblocker.
3) Sue Chess.com. (You'll lose, btw.)
4) Tolerate the situation and shut up.
5) Tolerate the situation and continue complaining about it.
I sincerely hope that you don't choose Option 5.
If you're on a desktop control + alt + delete then bring up task manager, then end process on flash or plugin container. Some ads such as anime ads and wedding ads (because of the beautiful ladies in dresses) I like but I never like the audio. I only like audio coming from a device on my terms.

As usual, Americans have no respect for privacy issues, and actually argues in Forums that people should accept that companies and organisatiosn abuse.... Dont you have a school in US that teach you basic common sense!? Sicne you dont seems to have it.

Well, an intelligent american simple dont seems to exist...

Well, I'm not suffering through the audio ads and you apparently are. Who's the intelligent one here?
Why are Americans being criticised here?
Because it's easier to attack someone's nationality than to address their argument.

Hey Chess.com. Ads are a part of how we pay for Chess.com. But we do NOT want ads to detract from your experience!
If you find any audio ads, popups, or distracting ads, please let us know ASAP! The most helpful thing to do is:
1. take a screenshot
2. hover over the ad or click on it to find the URL / link to where it goes
3. send that info to support@chess.com
We will look into it ASAP and get it blocked!
Again, I'm very sorry for anyone impacted by these ads. That is not our intention!
Please report!
Erik explained in another thread once, that the ads purchased from Google and Yahoo were clean. I'm refering to Google andYahoo ASSURING Erik that the ads were clean. After they got hacked, I don't think there's anything that google, yahoo, U-tube, etc can assure to ANYBODY.

And it seems clear to me that Erik is more concerned about the income from the ad servers than protecting the Chess.com users from audio ads and malicious ads that deliver malware to the users' PCs. Don't get me wrong, that's OK with me, as long as I know where his loyalties lie ($$$). I can adjust accordingly. The only thing that disturbs me is that many people here aren't as security savvy, and they may not know how to protect themselves from this danger.

When I bring up Task Manager I don't see flash or plugin container at all!
As for the sounds from the ads they don't bother me at all since I take off my earphones when I'm on chess.com. I have a paid subscription to ICC and come over to chess.com for sundry features.
I find the audio ads, encountered pretty much daily, on this site unfairly intrusive. Other sites using banner ads do not regularly use audio ads, or if they do, it's with extreme rarity (once or twice a year) as they know they're intensely irritating to recipients and end up driving away members.
Yes, I know I could pay thousands of dollars to avoid the ads (through paying $28-$99/yr in premium membership dues), or, I could 'mute' my PC's sound.
But I'm on a budget, and 'sound' is a key element of the PC experience generally (not just this site but other sites as well). eg. Just now I almost missed a tournament matchup for a 5/0 game on another site as I didn't hear that site's starting sound (having muted the sound because of this site's audio ad).
