Auto move king

Hi

Why doesn't chess.com automate the kings move in situations where the king is in check and can only move to 1 square?

I'm playing a 3day game at the moment and now I have to wait for king to move to the only square he can before check-mating. Seems like a waste of time to me.

Thoughts?

that seems like a pretty good idea.  i don't think it should be automated for live chess, only correspondence chess

If the king doesn't move, then it becomes obvious to the player that there is more than that option, in a situation when that player is unsure of the choices.

pretty sure they would eventually figure out that you have to move the king in a correspondence game where 1 king move is the only legal move lol

Yes, but in a situation when a player thought there was only one legal move, and the computer doesn't move it, it would indicate another option that player might have missed.

I know that I've delayed making forced moves in online chess so that I could have more time to figure out what my next move should be.  I can also think of one example where I delayed making a forced King move in the hope that my opponent would forget that I was threatening a deadly sacrifice.

That's a really good point Sunshiny. That didn't cross my mind.

Due to that reason alone their current setup is fine. Can't have in-built clues being given away by the computer.

But regardless considering there is no way out of this 2 move check-mate it's a bit of a nuisance to have to wait.

Perhaps chess.com can adjust this feature depending on player ratings. For example a player at >1,400 rating it could be assumed that they can figure out all legal king moves and in response the software auto-moving the king when only 1 legal move exists would save the non-beginner players some time and auto-move the king accordingly.

I think that would be a good way to balance out the problem. But allow the individual the option in his/her settings would probably work best.

yeah that is a good point sunshiny, i didn't think about it that way.  now that you raise that point, i am against this auto-move idea.
