Auto-Resign Is Stupid, Cheats You of Your Time.

No one is taking time away from you. Here online, you take longer than 30 seconds to think, and you auto-resign. Bullshit!

And worse than that, they tell you connection is lost. Oh really, with me multi-tasking, and being quite well connected to several other sites? I don't think so.

1. No you don't. If you arrive late, or too late, auto forfeit. And if you are away from you board for too long they can also forfeit you

2. 30 seconds? You should record how long before the autoresign so there is some data

Whatever? In any over the board tournament, they do that if it's been about an hour. As for online and about 30 seconds. I have not only recorded it, I've lived it.

Almost every time I play Rapid on this site, I get auto-resigned, with a little message I lost my connection when I haven't. I'm very well connected to other sites. Stop assuming things and quit trying to equate one to the other. I've played in over 300 events over the board, have a 2000+ rating. I think I know the difference.

They're trying to stop ego problems from just letting their clock run, if they are losing, but some of us don't do that in the first place.

except in fide events it can be instantaneous. also we are equating them because you made the statement that elsewhere you get all your time and that it isn't real time control if you do get forfeited. so by that extension you attack is on all times chess everywhere haha. also none of my statements we're assumptions, I mearly suggested that timing the auto resign would give more credence to your argument

I've played in FIDE Rated Tournaments, I haven't noticed that it was immediate there either, in fact, at the Hong Kong International, one guy didn't make it to his board until 20 minutes later. I know because I was his opponent.

"can be" as in not always, different tds give more leeway.

Ok ChessinBlackandWhite, I'll concede that possibility, since I've only played a few FIDE Events, but it's not the same as online, where you're just flat out cheated out of your time. By your analogy, I arrived late to every online game I ever played, even when I was looking at my opponent's name on the screen.

@HorselessGunfighter could you ask chess.com to expand the auto-resign time to maybe 2-5 min? That may help but I think we need to find a balance between people who is just leaving games for real and for people who are unfortunate to have bad connection issues.(Not pointing any fingers at opponents who have been made auto-resign, would like to clarify that)
