Automatic Vacation Status

I know chess.com uses the automatic time out protection to entice its free members to start paying for this wonderful service, but is this feature really necessary. I have been playing a guy rated about 100 points above mine for a while now. The game was flowing smoothly until i managed to get into decisively winning position and since then he would make one move and let the time run down and then the system would go on vacation with minutes remaining to finish the game. This has happened atleast twice and the worst thing about it is that i have seen his rating improve during his "vacation". When does this action become abuse of the feature. Please chess.com this feature is helping players cheat and deminish the quality of the game of chess. I personal do not have a problem with people who take 6 days and 23 hrs to make a move on a 7 days per move game but its when they take vacation at 80 minutes and it last for hrs and days extra that it becomes abuse. Does anyone else feel that chess.com should either limit or eliminate this feature.

I agree...  One possible solution to the vacation problem is that when using vacation an account can go on vacation, not a game.  So if someone wants to go on vacation their entire account stops.  If they play any game then they are back from vacation.

I have been abused through this system also. I am TRYING to finish a tournament with a young man who makes a move then disappears for days. I have beat him in the past and we have chatted about his frequent absences. He has given me some reasonable excuse in the past, but... I feel he is hoping this ol' dog will tire of the slow play and resign, NO CHANCE! I am hanging in. I know one thing though. When we finish this tournament I will set it so he and I never play again- my 2 cents worth

how would we go about getting chess.com's attention to this matter and possibly doing as esolom said and put an entire account on vacation not just a game?

The whole account does go on vacation.  You can't make moves until you take your status off vacation.  His rating may have changed while he was on vacation if his opponent timed out or resigned in any game, or if he took himself off vacation, moved in a few games, then put himself back on vacation.

I also agree.I have come across this act,and it's quite frustating...

As Smartens has said, the entire account DOES go on vacation. If you play a move then your vacation time will turn itself off.

I cant see what your problem is, anyway. Just leave the game at the bottom of your pile until you win it. It isn't stopping you from doing anything else, is it?

If his rating is going up while you have a winning position, that's a good thing for you -- you will get more points when you finally do win.
