Variants require sometimes an entirely different skill set in order to play effectively....my respects to the ones who can do it...but with that being said, I have heard--in multiple forums--that more often than not, partners in either Bughouse or 4-Player Chess are less than congenial...
^i would consider myself a horrible partner, but that’s because my brain is not wired for bughouse. In bughouse, not only do you have to scan for regular threats, but you have to think “where can my opponent place a piece that can cause damage”?, which is hard. In a seemingly normal position, your opponent can just start a devastating attack out of nowhere, so while you might be good at regular chess, in bughouse you’re letting down yourself and your teammate.

Why does chess.com have so many bad partners? I had a guy who's 1700 and played like 600. When, I had good partners, I reached 1550. Due to bad partners, I dropped 190 rating points.
