Becoming a "National Master"

Well, based on some research I did, it seems like most nations have a national chess federation affiliated with FIDE.  The USCF is a confederated affiliate of FIDE that regulates chess in the USA, for instance.

The FIDE website has a pretty cool interactive world map on which nations have FIDE afflilates, along with some key info about them.  http://www.fide.com/component/fidedirectory/?view=federations

Now, you'll notice that the vast majority of nations have official national chess organizations affiliated with FIDE.  In fact, the only nation in the Americas without an FIDE affiliate is French Guiana.  I also didn't see those small Caribbean islands like Grenada, Martinique, Gudadeloupe on there either.

There are a smattering of African nations apparently with no offical chess federation, or at least none affliated with FIDE.  When I first came up with this idea, I thought that either Liberia or Cote d'Ivoire would be the perfect candidates for this idea, and lo and behold, neither of those countries have FIDE affiliates.  Equitorial Guinea, a small and notoriously corrupt African nation does not have an FIDE affiliate either.

Neither do Chad, Tanzania, Eritrea, Djibouti, and a few other African nations.  Oddly enough, Greenland doesn't have an FIDE affiliate organization but Greenland has never struck me as a particularly unstable or corrupt country.

Now, check out what the CIA world factbook has to say about both the Cote d'Ivoire and Equitorial Guinea.  If you want to skip right to the corruption stuff just jump to the "transnational issues" sections:

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/iv.html

and

As Hannibal from the A-Team says, I love it when a plan comes together!  Are you sure no-one has thought of this or done this before?

I believe Greenland is part of Denmark

johnmusacha

Good call!  Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark BUT is not part of the European Union.  Greenland also has autonomous home rule.  Conversely, French Guinea (in South America), which another member intelligently noted was part of France, has no home rule and IS part of the European Union.

Now, I know what a lot of you are thinking about this idea.  You're saying, yeah, Musacha, it sounds plausible and that it could be done theoretically, but it's neither practical nor safe.  For the most part, I agree with that.  But I can think of the type of "profile" of person that this would be a little easier for.

Yo bro, its the second to last post the above poster was referencing.  That's where a staff member said that all NM titles would be recognized.  And that's also obvious since we have non-US National masters as titled players here.

Plus that post was thirteen months old.  Things haven't been like that since the second to last post in August 2011.

Say somebody has got something big set up on a political level and was negotiating price. "Ill sell you these____ for 8 million euros and nothing less" Then the buyer is like "how about 7 million" At this point the seller would say, "OK, seven million, but throw in a NM title and we got a deal."  The smart way for someone to pull this off would be to piggyback it into another deal. For instance, you're the one that always has to throw away the mayors' dead hookers, might as well get a NM title for that, but my advice would be to only stick around long enough for the title because eventually he will eliminate his liabilities. And if you actually did end up with the title illegitimately, do yourself a favor and pull a Josh Waitzkin so you didn't have to actually compete anymore. Before I get attacked by all the Josh lovers here- I like the guy, but he let me down when he left the scene

@kenpo- people need to be a---oles to convey a point sometimes. Better he learns that sooner than later because this world has entirely too many people that look like dumba--es because they don't know what the heck they're talking about, and far too few people willing to call them out on it. If he expects to be coddled then maybe he should go play farmville or something. I've got an idea, all of John's posts should be labled PG-13 to avoid any confusion. Believe me, I'm sure he's trying to tone it down for all you sensitive people out there.Sealed

Being a National Master at chess wasn't much fun. I enjoy playing for fun these days.

this guy is connected enough to be a NM in no time. C'mon, I know you've seen this movie before.

johnmusacha

Oh yeah, not only do I know the movie but honesty, girls when I was growing up in Miami kept telling me I looked just like the guy.  In any case, the real George Jung could have pulled it off with hardly any of the hassles that we mere "civilians" would face, especially knowing how Pablo Escobar himself was an actual member of the Columbian Parliament in the 1980's.

Why not go above the stratosphere? Reach for the sky. Have the loftiest chess goals that you can dream of. Become a National Master of...

THE MOON.

From Northern Mare Serenitatis to Janssen South, your fame as a national master of chess will have spread out of this world. You will be among the stars of chess. Your brightness of intellect will rise and shine at its fullest once a month. You will be:

MM: moon master.

Nobody has a problem with Musacha.  Well, except for that KCO fellow and this admin from Team USA:Northwest because he didn't want to play my Jerky Boys team in a match and I got more friendly admins to agree to the match.

I have a problem with Musacha!

johnmusacha

Yes, and what is your specific problem, my friend?

Solve the equation 6n + 11 = -7 + 3n. So in other words, find out what n equals?

deadastronauts

This is a great idea!

You should move to the Principality of Sealand.  Easy peasy!

See problems are made to be solved : )))

johnmusacha

according to my notes, N= negative 6.

6(-6) + 11 = 25; -7 + 3(-6) = -25

-36 + 11 = -7 + (-18), both -25

sapientdust

That's some interesting math, but in this universe, 6 x -6 does not equal 14, as you imply by 6 x -6 + 11 = 25.

johnmusacha

6 x 6(-6) + 11 = -25

that "25" was a typo, I meant -25, as you can plainly see.

-36 + 11 = -25 ... -7 + -18 also

sapientdust

Oh right, sorry. I didn't read further to see the following -25.
