Oh.

If you're actually going to commit to that then...

I went from 1127 to over 1600 in about 8 months. I actuall tied first class B in an open tournament with a rating of 1608 from 1477. I never had a rating in the 1500's uscf.  I did it compldetely with two reinfeld books 1001 checkmates and 1001 sacrifices and /i repeated the books till i scored 90 percent without looking at an answer.

Do you have a link/ proof of 1600 in OTB? It is hard to belive , considering your blitz rating here is 1100.

your games show you are not eligible for any titles yet . you need at least 6 hours a day for that

If you're very serious in the NM title pursuit, a professional experienced coach is the best way. He would also be your sparring partner. So hire at least an NM.

Another path of self study is abandon all books. Buy latest Fritz GUI and Chessbase.

UPDATE : I am no longer focusing on becoming a master anymore. I used to think getting a title would improve my appreciation of the game, but I can already get that from games collections and books. Anyway, thanks for the advice everyone.

Type in "josh kaufman the first 20 hours" on youtube and, according to this guy, you can go from knowing absolutely nothing about a skill, to being really good compared to when you started in a period of just 20 hours.  He's also written a book on his learning method, and he's tried and tested it on a number of different things like the ukulele, programming, and a number of other things.  There's also a guy on there who also tried it to learn the ukulele, as well as design drawing, and it worked for him.  And the great thing about this is that this guy, Josh Kaufman, is a very busy man, along with his wife, and despite that he has been able to carve out a little bit of time per day to be able to learn these things well in a total of just 20 hours.  So check it out, it might help you.  Good luck!

Just a couple of days ago I announced my plan of hitting 1500 (from 1275) by the end of the year. It's a goal to reach for, but I think even that might be a bit unrealistic. If I'm able to crack 1400 at my age, that will be a success.

Instead of aiming at NM in 3 years, aim to increase your rating by 100-200 points and see how long that takes. That will give you a good idea of where you stand and whether your goal is realistic or a fantasy.

Fantasy? No! That goal is realistic. It's just a matter of priority. You got other goals too for sure. If you set chess as your top goal and priority, that is attainable. This means reducing your time spent with people you loved. You can't have everything as you wish. Less golf and no more Bingos

Title is overrated.

There is a thread here about NM losing streak who blunders his queen every game so I dont think its good

You remind me of my former avatar. OP can become NM if he sacrifice time spent with his girlfriend or family. It's easier to get a new girlfriend, wife than obtaining NM title.

My Suggestion: Hire one lovely looking chess coach. Two birds with one stone wink.png
