" Beginner " players playing above their rating

I think this has become a problem. At this point, 400 - 700 rated players are playing like a 1000 - 1400 rated player. Even a 600 rated player can beat a 1200 rated player with much ease. I don't really get how this came to be. Someone, explain? ( Maybe it's something like, say, one person gets stronger to beat another person, and the cycle repeats. But, how has this not been addressed? )

Maybe I'm just not caught up well with the Internet. If the situation has been addressed and I don't know, sorry.

Cheating… an uncontrollable cheating

fraud … an uncontrollable fraud

I made two bots, a 900 and a 1660, challenge each other. Somehow the 900 beat the 1660 rated bot

I know this is a little off topic, but I’m just saying..

The ratings compression coming up will resolve this.

There is certainly some cheating and sandbagging. However, there is also a simple statistical concept that may help explain the perception that so many low-rated players are underrated.

online blitz and rapid ratings are highly variable. It is common for ratings to fluctuate by 200 points or more.

Consider a player with a rating of 500. This rating may be accurate. It may be an overestimate of someone with a lower skill level. Or it may be an underestimate of someone with a higher skill level.

Which of these latter two possibilities is more likely? That the player has a higher skill level! Why? There are many more stronger players who may be underrated than there are weaker players who are overrated!

I've beaten my brother who is 300 elo higher than me (consistently)

Hi

Thanks for responding. I think I get it now, and it seems like I can't do anything about it. Well, we Beginner players will just have to work extra hard. ( mikewier ) Once again, sorry, I do not know how to do the response text. And, from 600 to 1200 is still quite a big jump of skill level. ( heathrowairport6 ) appreciate your responses!

Do you have any proof for that?

(The answer is no).

I agree with @magipi

It’s a dude tired of loosing so whoever they are makes another account Starting at base level and matching so he can roll through people…..it makes themselves feel better about their life and they can go to bed with a smile. Let em have it. If ya think about it….youll sorta feel bad for em and you’re honestly doing a public service making the weirdo’s happy. Overall it’s a good thing.

Yeah… just no.

For those who say that there's no proof, just go back to playing with 500 elos. They literally make no blunders. Sure, you can beat them. But do a game review, the game review will normally say they played like a 600 - 950 rated player. And, someone with 600 elo can beat 2000 elo players occasionally and 1300 elo players consistently.

And I don't mean bots, I mean actual players.

You can game review my recent games if you want. There's often someone playing above 700 elo.
