Beginner resources on breaking pawn chains?

I don't know of any resources except for maybe a chess mentor lesson or two on pawn structure.However,from what I know a rule of thumb is to attack the chain at the base.If you're unable to attack the base or if it's a longer chain,then attack the chain with a pawn or blockade a pawn with a minor piece to prevent any advances. By the way don't play computer,play people.Granted I don't know too much but I thought I could help.
