Being 2300 sucks.

I spent thousands of hours playing and studying to get to 2300 rapid here. I like 15/10 and 30+0, and will settle for 10+0 when all else fails. Recently I've been having a hard time getting anyone in the queue for any of these at my rating! I really want to play longer games but it just doesn't match me with anyone! And the fact I can't play rapid when I want means I'm not improving much anymore and not enjoying chess as much either. What's the answer??

Play 10+0

Quit 15/10 and 30/0

10+0 is basically blitz tho, by the time you get to the endgame you can't think

Is lichess better for this? I'm only 2k so I've never had this issue but I've heard from a few higher rated friends that lichess is better for long time controls.

Dchessguy124

Yeah I've heard this... might need to make the switch then

LongLiveTheKing2000

Congrats on your progress so far!

At a certain point it's easier to play blitz it's more competitive plus there is a disproportionate amount of cheaters in rapid compared to blitz more competitive plus less cheaters = win win if you want to do rapid you could always do study partners or competitions tbh I've kinda been wanting to test my rapid strength for a while I just really don't like rapid on chess.com

Lichess is slightly better at it but that's also partly cause they have a classical option

But play Blitz and Bullet, man, don’t be so boring.

Besides, online chess is full of cheaters.

It’s safer to play Bullet like I do it's much harder for them to cheat that way.

Lichess is better when it comes to premoves.

On Chess.com, it's a total mess that they let you make 20 premoves

it’s just not serious.

They should ban premoves, in my opinion. It would make chess purer.

I don't think lichess is much better. It's hard to find players even in 10+0 on both sites. The best time was, when the player league system started in 2022. There were many strong players in the rapid arena tournaments.

I don’t really have a say as a 300 rated player (main is 600 fyi so don’t make fun of me) but I’d switch to lichess but one thing is don’t you lose your rating if you switch?

A lot of players have a rating on both sites, so it does not really matter

10+0 isn’t blitz, blitz is 7 minutes and under, so it qualifies for Rapid.

10+0 is considered blitz in irl tournaments. Chess.com made the confusing decision to reclassify 10 min blitz formats as rapid sometime in 2014-15. I'm not sure why.

Edit- it was actually 2020 when this change was implemented. Additionally, everyone with a bullet rating was bumped up 150 points around that time too. Very odd.

lichess has no due process on cheating allegations. I played 2800 rapid games there before being accused of cheating without rhyme or reason, their version of appeal is check a box "yes i cheated" or "no i cheated", so keep in mind if you make the switch.

i only play rapid here and i feel you on having a hard time finding opponents, but you wont catch me dead playing blitz daily. Builds bad habits

I don’t think you were only accused of cheating if you saw the appeal button. That means you were banned which probably means they had some evidence. You can always argue the ban and I’ve had friends get reinstated after false bans

When I went from 2150 to 2400 OTB, I found that playing correspondence chess was very helpful. This allowed me to analyze positions in great detail. This was great for understanding middlegames and endgames, and understanding how plans in one part of the game influenced later parts.
