Best advice for aspiring blitz players without increment...

... always have a reliable object nearby that you can throw in case of extreme tilt.

I played a blitz tournament without increment yesterday and when managed to lose a completely winning position (engine +5) after an already not-so-good start of the tournament, I grabbed a pen from my desk and threw it full speed at my door in my living room.

Unfortunately, it was a hard plastic pen which resulted in it being blown into pieces: pic related - it shows all of the parts I have been able to recover so far, but I am still missing at least two larger pieces frustrated

In the past, I have usually thrown a pack of handkerchiefs - that I can recommend, no damage being done by that. thumbupthumbup

My alternative advice (also to myself) to the one above would be: Just quit playing blitz without increment, or even bullet, for that matter unless you enjoy losing games (aka being a masochist) which - in a classical game - even the worst chess player on this planet would be able to convert, given a reasonable amount of time to think about it. Plus you don´t learn anything from playing those, so please do not expect to get better at chess solely by playing those.

In before:

[ ] dude calm down, grow up and just learn to manage your anger issues

[ ] don´t say blitz without increment sucks just because you suck at it

I hope you already noticed but this post was mostly made for entertaining purposes and not because I like whining - I am only partly serious about it, lol. I am also aware of the fact that I am probably like the 10237th person on this planet who made a post similar to this one, or at least thought about it. happy Have a nice day and enjoy your games!

Thanks for the advice. I guess it’s somewhat insightful? I don’t know if it’s exactly pertinent to me, because I suck at chess regardless of increment, but thx I guess.

I like the idea with the duck. Do you squeeze it, throw it, or crush it with your fist? grin

I just leveled up at chessable, which always comes with a quote related to chess.

The quote this time was: "Schach ist nichts für schwache Gemüter" (chess is not for the faint of heart). I guess that sums up the whole topic quite well, lol.

To be honest this is something I like a lot when it comes to playing chess or even wanting to improve. It is somehow the ultimate challenge for your own personality, a chance to get rid of emotions that are harmful or at least useless.

Until I manage to perfect this, I rejoice in the fact that even the best of the best have this problem. (eg Magnus Carlsen hitting the table vs Gukesh one month ago) lol happy
