Okay then study Rashid Nezhmedtinov.

Here is a game where he managed to defeat the Tal the Magician.

Ive always had an annoyance with the fact that morphy played like a 1600-1800 player but people acted like hes the best. any ways thanks for the suggestion ill check it out later

The Life and Games of Mikhail Tal and My 60 Memorable Games are both good books by attacking players.

RJF was admiring two players: Morphy, and Tal.

That Tal vs  Sviridov game is beautifull

Study Tal for attacks. Also, you can learn a lot about attacking by playing an opening like the sicilian dragon. It's not the best choice for black objectively, and certainly not something to play exclusively. So you'd need time to study a broad repertoire, but the dragon will teach you a lot about nuances to look for when attacking (and defending!) the castled king.

So you think you can learn NOTHING from Morphys games?

Your rating here is under 1200, and yet you cant learn anything from a 1600-1800 player?

Finally there's a discussion about the strength of P.Morphy in this forum. Something everybody missed. To the topic: Any well commented game collection with a handfull of games before 1900 teaches at your level what you need most. Don't spoil your time. Take a good one and go through it. Capablanca, A Primer of Checkmate or so should be perfect for you and has good recommendations for further training.

My wishing you luck was genuine.  I am curious who put the thought in your head that Morphy isnt worth studying?  That is such a rediculous notion.

Ben_Dubuque

I'm still studying Morphy. He was able to simplify chess into art and yet still be accurate. Whether for entertainment or study, his games are always worth the time.

With all due respect, at your level, the games of Morphy might be too advanced until you have worked through Gioachino Greco's oeuvre.

Hey guys id rather not turn this into a rant about morphy becuse I am sure Diakonia and them are much more intelligent and qualified to talk about that subject. Let us continue with our aggresive game postings

We are here to help.  But first things first my friend.  You will grow as a chess player much quicker, and your understanding will be much greater when you start to learn, and understand Morphys games need to be studied.  Sticking with this obsurd idea that he is a 1600-1800 player (Honestly...who told you this???) will only slow your growth.
