Best country for chess?

So I’d like to take this opportunity to ask you about chess in your country. How is chess viewed in society as a whole? Are there any chess radio or TV programs? Is your country’s chess federation a visible, functional body? How many opportunities are there for kids to play? How could chess become more popular in your country? And finally (if you want to hazard an opinion), what do you think is the best country to play chess in?

One assumes love of chess is still very strong in Russia? Can't really say so much about this country, I'm afraid. The last time chess was very much in the news was the Short-Kasparov World Title match in the early 90s (IIRC).

I have seen a couple of students playing at my school once, but other than that there is no chess around

Russia. Next question?

In my country people don't play chess. Most think that whoever plays chess is a genius. That must be the reason why there aren't many strong players here.

Ukraine, they have tons of skilled people but nobody wants to play them, they are to scared to lose. russia is imho the least wanted for playing chess, in the past yes but now ... not at all

Gawwd...the Spanish Inquisition had fewer questions.

Now that was actually quite witty, for once. I think the Inquisition was more a case of torture to death then ask questions later happy.png

1.  there are no chess TV/RADIO  programs in Pakistan .

2. chess federation in Pakistan is not visible .

Pakistan has mainly two parts : developed part, here chess federation holds tournaments and is somewhat functional .

the other part is war zone part , here chess federation does not exist .people in this part dont even know what chess is . yes , you may find one or two who know what chess is but you wont find anyone who can actually play .

3. there are no oppurtunities for kids  to play chess . some universities do hold chess competitions once a year for their students so i guess some students do get to play it .but on a large scale , chess is not visible .

4. chess can become popular if our chess federation takes steps to establish chess clubs in different parts of country and give some solid guidelines for participation in chess tournaments that they hold . i emailed chess federation of our country some months ago that i was a chess player interested in tournements and want to know how to participate in them but got no reply from them  .

Why? What makes Russia so terrible for chess now?
