Looking to replace my kindle fire. What's the best tablet, os, and size for playing chess. Looking at Verizon's LG Pad 8.3 LTE or the Galaxy Tab 2, 10.1 tablet. Don't always have wifi so that's why the Verizon. Have always had android phones, so not familiar with Apple except $$.

Would appreciate your input. Thanks

Probably a Surface Pro 3, i7 model. Most powerful tablet I know of.

I find the Nexus 7 a good size for seeing the board on and holding in your hand.

The Surface Pro 3 is an hybrid, halfway between a tablet and a laptop. It will cost 800$ which is way above what many people can afford for a ''device''. Of course the OP doesn't specify how much he wants to put into a tablet so it's anybody's guess.

In the high end tablet market the Galaxy Tab 4 looks rock solid with it's 1.5 GB RAM and 1.3 GhZ quad-core proc. I don't have one but I've seen G Tab work, and they are really nice. Android is probably the best OS for tablet so far with countless apps including chess.com, Fide Online Arena and other chess engines such as Stockfish. Prices hover around 200$ for 7'' and 350$ for 10.1''. Needless to say that the bigger the screen is the better it will be to play live chess but it comes to down to how much the OP wants to put into this.

True, but like you said, the op didn't say what they would like to pay. Nor did they say what they would like to run on it. All the strongest Engines will run on Windows with few exceptions.

If youre going to use the word "best" then the answer is obvious, a real chess set.
