Become computer literate and go to lichess.org in Github. Get the source code and make it run locally on your PC. It has no license so you can blatantly copy it and use it for yourself. It definitely does not look like it was made in 1998 and uses Stockfish. If you become stuck at one point you may ask that French nutjob who created lichess to help you.

Oh wait, I forgot having the mental brightness to perform such genius actions is only possible in Russia. Sorry "brotha", you will have to use Arena.

Well that's a bit snobbish, isn't it? Remember it was the US who gave you both computers and the internet. Without us you would be beating rocks right now.

Get out of your capitalist bubble before it blows up brother. Those damn americans have brainwashed you. Last time I checked Alan Turing and the Colossus were BRITISH and last time I checked Churchill was scared of me and the SUPREME SOVIET army. Forgot about operation unthinkable bud? HUH?

Lichess runs an instance of Stockfish on your browser when you use the analysis board so its being ran by your computer. When you run a full game trough analysis it uses server processors to check the game for you. It also has a bunch of servers storing chess positions and their analysis so if a position you are checking has already been evlauated by someone it displays the score instead of making your local stockfish evaluate it again.

Kids age 10 in Soviet Russia knew how to do this and much more. I love Putin but the Russians became less enlightened after he was chosen as a president. Sad. 1991 will be damned forever.

You can use Lucas Chess and change the piece skin to Lichess.org skins, you can also change the board color. Probably the less crappy looking free chess program.

Yeah... I'll listen to a guy whose country lost the space race, the atomic bomb race, the race to invent airplanes, and computers, and smartphones...
Oh, and a country with breadlines, poisonous water supplies, and overrun by the Russian Mob... Yeah... I'm SOOOOOO brainwashed.
But it appears that you're right about Stockfish. And, just so you know, it's not out of laziness or stupidity that I don't know coding. It's an "I don't care enough yet and have other interests right now" thing. I know my way around a computer.

I have to give you major props for this post. I know that it is difficult for you to not post utter nonsense on the forum.

Thanks whining. Sometimes my genius side decides to post very intellectual posts which look like "utter nonsense" to lesser beings. I try not to but you know, I can not control it sometimes.

Lets see, who won the Berlin Battle? Me. What does that mean? That I had access to all the German scientists from WW2 that I gifted you guys. I was winning with odds at the time and had to give you a chance so instead of imposing my complete superiority on you by keeping the German scientists I decided to make a smart move. Give you the scientists so you believed you had a chance all this time with your dummie atomic bombs and dumb B52s almost blowing up your own country,

The truth is I do not want to start a world crisis right now but when the time comes the motherland will raise once again and the US will be a thing of the past. Just like the Roman Empire.

And I am sorry but even after killing and sending a bunch of talented Soviets to gulags I still got Sputnik first than you bud. And do you know whats the biggest bomb that has ever been detonated in planet earth? Right! The Tsar bomb made by the ever lasting Soviet supremacy.

If you are up for using Linux (Ubuntu, Debian or Raspberry Pi versions) you could try my new Chess GUI, StingRay .

My GUI has all the basics, supports UCI and Xboard and hopefully doesn't look like it was written in 1998. It is as simple and lightweight as possible, so does not have tons of exotic features, as that is not what I wanted to create.

Cheers,

By the way KingpinChess, wasn't it a Brit who invented the internet ?!

Well, I guess you've asked similar questions before, and I know you're not real fond of Arena. But Arena is good for engine tournaments. Lucas Chess is good for analysis. Scid or Scid vs. PC is good for database work.

And I'm not sure what 1998 looks like. :)

Is this 1998?

What is database work?  I have no idea what that means?

I'm looking for a nice looking free chess GUI with at least these features:

- UI that doesn't look like it was programmed in 1998.

- Ability to analyze games and open and save PGN files

- Ability to import my own engines and set the elo strength of them.

- Ability to have engine games and tournaments and play games with different time settings

I already know about Mayura Chess Board, but for some strange reason it won't work on my computer. Whenever I try to install an engine it says it can't load it. I also have lucaschess and like it very much for a training tool, but it isn't as good for a standalone chess playing app.

Suggestions?

I had the same problem too . But now i am using DECODECHESS and i am happy with it. its a pretty modern software, doesnt require download, and allows you too do free analysis but for decoding you can only do 2 per day. if u want to do more u have to pay subscription. check it out
