Carlsen is the highest rated ever to take a step on this planet altough Caruana's in top form.Carlsen has dipped 7 rating points in the past year and Caruana has gone up a crazy 65 rating points I give my vote Caruana what about you

GideonDerTactician

Bobby Fischer is obviously the best player in the world :).

GideonDerTactician

Fischers dead so I'll say Carauna since he's got the eye of the tiger.

I think if Caruana will surpass Carlson it will probably still take a year or two. Maybe he needs a good trainer. Carlson had Kasparov which seemed to help him a lot.

Iluvsmetuna

Caruana knows he can take Carlsen out.

So at the moment he is deliberately playing badly to make Sinquefield look a flash in the pan.

There is one player on this planet. He is five times World Champion! He has proved himself in all formats of the game! He has a college degree and he is decent, happily married and is a devoted dad! When everyone had written him off, he bounces back! Don't you know who I am talking about??

arul_kumar

wait a decade and then let us see what happens to Carlsen and Caruana!

Form is temporary class is permanent. Caruana has had a great run and now is more of a target. But Carlsen is the player everyone wants to beat. That's why Caruana gets away with playing mainline stuff and people try to beat him so he gats good opportunities. He won't be able to cope with the pressure of being a Carlsen rival because he just hasn't got that much talent

Umm, he's ranked number 2 in the world.  By definition he has loads of talent considering the millions of FIDE registered players.

dr_VINCENT_ZURIA

GM Jose Raul Capablanca, no doubt.

That would Be pretty hard to believe but of he starts any sort of improvement rating wise he's in doubtfully skip out Carlsen

"I give my vote Caruana what about you"

No one would suggest Caruana if not for that one result in Sinquefield Cup, but one result doesn't make a player the best in the world. It's just to compare with Carlsen - when he had his worst performance in four years in the Olympiad with 2799 it was still a better performance than Caruana's in the same event, and that was still quite a decent performance for Caruana.

Carlsen is the highest rated ever to take a step on this planet although I am in top form. Carlsen has dipped 7 rating points in the past year and I have gone up a crazy 165 rating points (from 980 to 1145); I give my vote to myself.

Caruana finished outside the top three in Wijk and Norway Chess, scored an equal middle of the field result in Zurich Classical, good second place in Gashimov Memorial, decent below 2800 result in the Olympiad (i.e. a worse result than Carlsen in all the four latest mentioned events), is on a minus score at the moment in Tashkent GP after sharing first with Gelfand in Baku GP with +2. He had no success in the rapid and blitz World Championships won by Carlsen, but won a comparatively weak Dortmund and scored the great Sinquefield Cup result (the one of seven events both played during the year where he didn't score a worse result than Carlsen). On the whole impressive results but not enough to rank him ahead of Carlsen, as I see it.

I finished top 1 in my high school tournament, which is clearly the single most important indicator of who is the best in the world.

Caruana wins finally in an interesting games against gelfand!Still only on 50% definitely not a dream tournament but I expect him to shine so brightly in London we will all be blinded by it

Very soon, I have a hunch that the Chess world is going to be swamped with Chinese Chess players!
