Solve tactics problems.

At novice level, you will always see blunders. Solving tactical problems will help lessen your blunders and will also allow you to see tactical shot to win material.

Study basic strategies

What if you can't find a tactic? What should you do?Where you should move your pieces? This is where your strategic understanding comes in.

Study endgames.

Studying endgame will improve your overall all play(not only your endgame) as you will know in middle game what positions are good for you in endgame. Endgame study is also a good calculation training.

Learn General Opening Principles

If you can, read books appropriate for your level.

Always study your opponent's last move

Always look at the whole board to see piece positioning

Before you make a move, check if there is a tactical drawback
