You can do a whole lot with a chess database and engine if used properly.

Some guidance on using chess engines for training . Or maybe some free softwares available online which can help improve game

I personally use Chessbase 15 and Fritz 16 so not free. Among other things, they have a nice mode for playing through games in their extensive database it a what is the best move kind of manner. You can use any game, not just ones from GMs.

As for free alternatives, Lucas Chess is very good at what it does. Some people also like SCID vs PC although I'm not a fan.
