I contend that most people who win say 55-60% of their rapid games are using an engine. Actually, I’m quite confident of it. How do 1100 rapid players have only a 750 blitz rating? I get beat by a player of roughly my rating in rapid and the analysis shows they made only one or two mistakes and all their moves are considered excellent or best. Yet they are very poor blitz players. How does one win most of their rapid games? As their rating rises, shouldn’t they be playing better players? In 4 months, my rating has gone from 400 to 950 or so and I’ve lost considerably more games than I’ve won.

Oh crap this means I’m cheating

nah man you're not a cheater you're a cheter

There are less people that cheat than you'd think. Around ~2100 rapid here I encounter a cheater about once every 20-30 games. So about a 4% chance.

Basically, if you can reach X rating legitimately why can't others?

You have 62 rapid games played, you have no basis to talk on the subject. Play 1000 rapid games at 2100+ and we can talk.

@B1ZMARK has over 600 rapid games…?

Meddard

when going to my rapid stats and sorting by all games with minimum rating 2100, it says I have 324 games.

Now, of course that's much less than 1000 games. But if we assume that 10min is rapid, then the 10min blitz games I've played in the past must also count as rapid. And I played 10min blitz exclusively from 1100 to 2000, reaching about 800 games. Of course there is no way to concretely prove that I actually have 800 games of 10min blitz under my belt, but hopefully I can ease some doubts.

Blitz good: sometimes too slow, sometimes too fast. Balance

@B1ZMARK, yup, I clicked a wrong profile apparently. Enjoy having only 4% cheaters, it's a nice illusion to have, better to believe that actually.

Here are some 10min blitz games from when I was 1100:

In your most recent 150 rapid games, 4 were closed for fair play.

4/150 = 0.02666... = 2.67%

That includes the people who use a prog once in a key moment during the game? Like I said, enjoy the illusion.

And how would you know that your opponent is using engine during the game a couple times better than anyone else? I can say the same to you. Enjoy the illusion

@B1ZMARK, Nobody knows how much cheating there actually is, the banned ones are 10000000% sure cases chess.com is willing to go to court with. If you think 100% of cheaters are detected and blocked instantly, I can't help you.

I mean, of course not. But is it really worth it to think that every person is a nutcase that uses the engine in complicated positions? If they're banned, great I guess, but if they aren't, then why beat yourself up over it? You only make yourself less happy in the end, and it's not like people will stop cheating once you ban enough of them.

So might as well just stop worrying about things like that and just play the game.

I’ve started playing more blitz because I suspected my opponents were using an engine in longer games. After each game, I look at my opponents profile. I’m regularly beating players rated much higher than me in rapid games. Looking at their profile, they win 55-60% of their longer time games and their ratings are much higher than mine. On 5 minute games, they lose the majority of their games. Are my suspicions correct?

rapid games are simply much easier especially at lower ratings most players will have a higher rapid rating compared to their blitz.

Rapid games being "much easier"... even if true... would have no effect on the ratings.

The rating comes ONLY from the win/loss results, not from the quality of moves. If rapid games are easier FOR BOTH PLAYERS, then it won't change the win/loss results, and therefore will have no effect at all on the ratings.

You seem to be under the weird impression that your rating depends on how well you play.

It doesn't. It depends on how well you SCORE (win/loss) compared to other people who are playing the same time control (Daily, Rapid, Blitz, whatever). So if Daily is easier than Blitz (for example), that has ZERO effect on the ratings.

blueemu

How can it possibly depend on how well you play? The quality of the moves isn't factored into the rating formula at all. Only the win/loss ratio counts for rating points.

And if Rapid is easier, then it is easier for both players, not just for one of them.

blueemu

Do you even know how ratings are calculated?

Ilampozhil25

seriously!

he is saying rating has nothing to do with how well you play but only with w/l

"Only the win/loss ratio counts for rating points."

Ilampozhil25

yes

a is friends with b but not c so b cant be friends with c

good logic
