blitz is making me worse!

Sort:

Step 1: Play 3 bullet games at 1|0

Step 2: Without a break after Step 1, play 2 blitz games at 3|0

Step 3: Without a break after Step 3, play a standard game at 45|45

Compare the six games.

Im not sure why Blitz games have become so popular. Chess used to take hours to complete. What is more quaint than seeing a little chessboard in a café change a little from day to day or two old timers spending an afternoon in the park playing the game?

Blitz games for me test your knowledge of the game, not your skill per sé.

But you can see by my only other thread that I probably have some uniquely disturbing thoughts about chess in general and its direction.

If you want to be good in Blitz I'd say have a sense of direction. Pick a point on the board and attack it.

You can try drinking a bottle of (your preference) after each loss. Eventually nature will (should) drag you away from the keyboard.

Blitz chess equals high blood pressure.

Is this true anymore? The park I go to, actually the Mill Valley Plaza, has old-timers playing ... blitz, and nothing but.

And even though they use digital clocks, it's straight-up five-minute blitz without increments.

The only public chess I've seen in the Bay Area is blitz.

I don't quite understand "blitz's" popularity.  If the players want to get to games end sooner, they should have started playing the game earlier. Cool

The problem with many players, who play only blitz is this:

If you play only bullet and blitz and you are low rated, don't assume you are bad.

There are many players who are high rated (1800 rapid or USCF slow) who are actually worse at blitz and have low rating for example 1400. And you play him and you lose and you are assuming you are crap player but in general you played a player who is few hundreds rating points better than you...

I can feel a difference imidiately when i am playing strong OTB player with low blitz skills/rating and when i am playing same rated blitz player but without OTB rating. (At FIDE server you can actually see every single player whats his stats OTB)

Music helps set a mood. You can search youtube for music by adding words like: relaxing, meditation, trance, chill.

You can also try to make a habit like after every game you stop to analyze that game, or after every game you solve 10 quick tactic puzzles.

0110001101101000 is correct. Music, especially calm music, will help you keep your composure in blitz chess.

Do what I always do when I get stressed out from playing blitz.   Open a vein and drink some of  your own blood.  It will calm you right on down.

p.s.  If you want to take some of the other advice and use music, I recommend something by "Tool".

p.p.s.  Vein, Artery...I can't tell the difference.

listening to 90' dance music hits while playing caresly it helps to enjpy chess and you would be surprised of the good results.
