I wish they had kept the prostitute thing out of the movie, personally. I understand they had the problem of making a chess movie interesting, and I think they were trying to sex it up.

The book Bobby Fischer Goes to War also referenced an interview he did, I think in Playboy, but all he said was that he liked curvy girls -- not exactly a earth shaking revelation and he might have been hamming it up for the magazine's "readers."

They have to do something to keep the movie from getting a G rating (the kiss of death).

RJF was not "normal" He was mentally ill. Devoted his life to the vinyl, an obsession that led to a tragic life.

Damn that RJF. He gave American chess a reputation thats taken a generation to recover from.

Almost everyone tried to escape the army, it was something to be proud of, but of course things have changed at some point, now they are back to normal, if there's anything normal going on, ever.

Nah.  My dad told me the military teaches discipline.  So it seems you made it.  Congratulations, Sirs!

I don't want to be rude but do you think you could take your discussion elsewhere? Perhaps create another thread in another section of the forum. The topic of my thread has little, if any, connection to the things you are saying. Thanks.

Good point.

Do you go camping often? Sit around the campfire and tell stories, We all know that guy. Every weekend he tells the same story, dreamed up of course, how he lost his virginity.

Everybody plays along, but sooner than later a new story gets interjected. This new one is even more implausible, but by now the beverages are flowing, the coyotes are howling, the fire is raging. Please don't ask me to find my sleeping bag. Probably has a snake in it just waiting.

But please do block these morons with the religious rants. It's the OP'S civic duty. Thanks !

So did I. I think the best we have are biographies and hearsay. There is no direct evidence that he did see a prostitute at all. Certainly some of the stories with Bobby Fischer and girls are probably true. But I simply do not think that the prostitute thing happened at all. At 19, Bobby was young and naive and it's unlikely he would've stepped out of his comfort zone to do something so extreme particularly before a tournament.

There seems to be some sort of trend here, I think, of geniuses having issues with women/relationships. I was reading something about Newton never having married or lost his virginity somewhere, too.
