I am rated about 1000 in rapid, and just played a 30 minute game with a similarly ranked opponent. I blundered early, and was down by as much as -11 at one point. At the end of the game my opponent had a brilliant move, accuracy was much higher than mine, and the commentary said I was really outplayed…. And yet I won….my opponent resigned! I played much faster than him, he got into time pressure, and he blundered a queen with 30 seconds left to go. Goes to show that at this lowly level it pays to keep fighting because you never know when someone will make a mistake. Of course I will resign if appropriate, but always felt like there was a smidgen of hope if I could get him to blunder under time pressure, and that is exactly what happened.
