Bummed Out When I Lose - Help

The world is a better place when good people hit their ten outers against loose aggressive donks. Gospel.

Don't pay any attention to snakesbelly, he's an arse. He thinks that if anyone beats him with a rating below his by 100 pts or more they must have cheated and he reports them.
I don't know about other people but I get a little upset when I lose and I am exhilirated when I win. I think we get upset when we lose because we know we could have won, especially when we realize the mistakes we've made. If you are anything like me you put a lot into the games you play so you want it to pay off. I call it passion for the game. Now, if you are punching your monitor or kicking the dog after a loss, well, that is something else all together! LOL.
PLus, it looks to me like you're doing darn well. I have been playing seriously for 2 1/2-3 months and I am still under 900. I would be feeling pretty good about a 1300 rating If I had it!

We get upset when we lose because we have been hardwired by millions of years of evolution to believe being on the losing end of any competition means decreased chance to mate successfully. Happily, with chess, it often works the other way around.

No he doesn't.

Play higher rated people. If you win, you'll be thrilled. If not, then you should have expected that. I negative mindset is sure to give you excellent satisfaction.

Really? That's funny because he said so himself.

You believe everything someone says? It was his idea of a joke.

Yeah...that's it.

And you know this how? I didn't see anywhere in that thread that he claimed he was joking but I did see him reassert his position. And IF he was joking then it only supports what I said in the first...he's an arse.

Because I'm intelligent and can tell when someone says something so unreleastic to be obviously kidding. And I've never seen him make a serious post yet.

One day a victory over a powerful opponent in a big tournament will make all those disapponting losses fade into the sunset! Chess is a very personal and emotional game we can all live with the fact that if we lose to a stronger player we learn from it and move on. But when we throw away totally won games through our own blunders, me thinks you are justified to be !!!!!!!

An English chess player overly enamored with his own intelligence. What a surprise!!

I personally detest losing. I come from an extremely competitive family, and have extremely competitive close friends. However as I learned more about the game, I only really became upset with myself if I played poorly, or threw away a win by some tactical oversight, etc. If I play a decent game and my opponent simply outplays me, I know that I can put that game under a microscope and really learn something, so it doesn't bother me. Unfortunately when I lose to a cheap tactical shot or an oversight, the only lesson I'm willling to give myself is "do more tactics..." which is frustrating.
My advice is to channel the emotions you receive from losing into motivation to either not lose to the same trick ever again, or to learn something valuable from the game.
by all means, do NOT cop out and make dumb excuses for all of your losses. It's very easy to do. Unfortunately we have to approach our own games critically and objectively. I know people who are improving EXTREMELY slowly because they can't accept that they've done something WRONG, and therefore they can't learn from their mistakes, or fix them.

I only meant in comparison to you.
LOL, Chimp, don't know if you're being facetious or not.
