Chess.com is allowed in China, and no VPNs are required. The reason why you rarely play with someone from China is that most Chinese prefer to play their own Chinese version, which is Xiangqi (Chinese chess. It is also a strategy game similar to chess.

In practice, access to Chess.com in China without a VPN can be unstable and often limited due to network filters. When I started using stable VPN Toggle, the situation completely changed: the connection became more stable, pages loaded quickly, and the gameplay was lag-free. Most importantly, the VPN doesn't affect the speed of games, allowing me to calmly participate in tournaments and analyze games. I liked that the service is easy to use, doesn't require complex settings, and works across multiple devices. For chess players who want to stay connected with the international community, this is a truly convenient solution. Now I can play anytime without restrictions and feel completely free to access the platform.
