So in correspondence chess ("online" in Erikspeak) you would select home>online chess>start new game>. Now right above the big orange button is a little box you can check that says "show more options". Now a new menu shows up with "standard starting position" and a little triangle to the right? Click the triangle, pick an opening you want to start from, select a friend, and start your game.
